South Northants Labour
A very warm welcome to the website for the South Northamptonshire Constituency Labour Party.
Find out about us and get in touch.
We are all Labour Party members; like-minded people who advocate for social justice. We also aim to provide scrutiny for West Northants Council’s policies and actions.
Some members are town and parish councillors whilst they and others are active with community groups such as food banks, climate action or the White Ribbon campaign. Our members are from a range of backgrounds and across our large constituency.
Our Executive Committee run our meetings, coordinate activities and liaise with the Labour Party at regional and national level. We have representatives for groups such as BAME, Disability, Youth, Women and Trade Union liaison. All CLP members are encouraged to get involved in groups or on other committees working on outreach such as the campaign committee or Your Vote at 16.
We support each other to stand as candidates for parish and town councils. We also welcome speakers with expertise in areas of interest to the membership.
Some members prefer to get involved casually, such as with the women’s walking group (which sometimes takes the opportunity to deliver leaflets while walking!). Groups are usually coordinated via WhatsApp.
CLP Executive Committee roles and representative roles are open to all at the time of our Annual General Meeting.
Every member has a role to play and every member is welcome.
We hope you will come and join us.
Our All Members Meetings currently take place on the second Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm at the Tove Valley Centre in Towcester (accessible and with free on-site parking). You can join in person or via a Zoom link. We very much welcome new faces.
We:
- Discuss local issues which affect our communities such as planning, SEND education provision and social care and agree on any actions or responses
- Share a Labour perspective on local town and parish councils and West Northants Council
- Contribute collectively and individually to the national Labour Party annual policy cycle
- Send representatives to the annual National and Regional Labour Party conferences and Women’s Conference and hear their reports
- Campaign for Labour candidates at elections for local councils, the WNC unitary authority and at general elections, among other things.
Campaigning is at the heart of everything we do. We work for social justice at home and abroad, good quality public services and local priorities such as better facilities for young and old, decent housing and a sustainable environment.
We also enjoy meeting each other and hearing each other’s views, informally making new connections and hearing about the activities and events involving our CLP colleagues and neighbouring CLPS.
